    Pregnancy @ May 1st

In the past month, we’ve had a lot happen. Easter was a lot of fun despite 6 hours of driving over 2 days to visit family in both northern and central Utah. We’ve had a lot of struggles with our property management company. Trying to get essentials fixed in our house requires a lot of pestering on our end. The things that need fixing at our apartment include our fridge, backyard deck, water heater, and washing machine. Each appliance requires a lot of follow-up (I had to threaten not to pay rent in order to get the fridge fixed, but not before we had to throw away all of our food 🙁)So, needless to say, this month has been very eventful despite all this; however, we are pleased to say our baby is doing wonderful! We recently purchased an at-home Doppler so we can listen to Flynn's heartbeat whenever we want. There’s something very comforting about hearing our son’s heartbeat. It’s one of the only senses that confirms that my son exists.Flynn is a very active child, already treating my wife’s womb like a trampoline sometimes. Bouncing and doing flips in my wife's belly. Though it makes my wife's stomach feel like it’s going to flip upside down it makes me very happy to be able to feel him moving around!

    The Benifit of Preparation

One of the more exciting things that happened during this month was the marathon I ran in Provo at the beginning of April. One of the biggest reasons I love running is because of the realizations I have about myself. While running the race, I had a realization about how life becomes easier the less you try and force a certain outcome.Let me explain:For months, I had been training, learning, and analyzing how to run this marathon as well as possible. After putting in the effort to train for the marathon, I found that during the marathon, all I could do was trust the preparation I had put in beforehand and run the best race I possibly could.Pushing too hard at the beginning of the race, trying to force a better run, would have made me tired later. And knowing how I felt, not running very fast at the very beginning, what most likely made me quit before finishing the race. Turning my efforts prior to and into nothing more than a learning experience.I believe there are many times in life when we try to force a certain outcome. Whether it’s in our careers, schooling, or even how our children act, we may be tempted to try to force excellence in ourselves or in others around us.However, from my personal experience, this often results in extreme stress and burnout, which in turn yields a less-than-ideal outcome.I am grateful for the work my wife and I have put into preparing for little Flynn's arrival into the world. From getting our finances in order to ensuring we have the right baby supplies, to reading books on parenthood, we have put a lot of work into making sure Flynn can live the best life he possibly can.Knowing this makes me more excited than ever.

It has only been three months and three weeks since we found out we are having a child.Since then, we have gained a bassinet in our bedroom and a closet filled with new baby clothing. New artwork for our nursery and overall has been the subject of conversation every single day since. It is sufficient to say that our lives have changed forever.Having this drastic a change in such a short time has come with much stress and complications, and almost all aspects of our lives. Most surprising are the emotional changes we have undergone over the past three months. As it turns out, (from parenting books and colleagues’) husbands and wives will go through drastic hormonal changes while the wife is pregnant. All this has led to a lot of planning for our future baby. There are times when I feel more stress than I've ever felt in my entire life. However, in the same breath, I believe I have also felt the most gratitude and love for my family that I have ever felt. For sure, things are differentBut overall, despite all the sleepless nights and worrying about our baby’s future, I’ve been able to see the world in a different, more positive light than ever before.Abree and I have been dreaming of this moment and have been planning for our new child. Now that it is here, it feels almost surrealWe are very excited
